In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025, tragedy struck in the small town of Alligator, Mississippi, culminating in the death of 19-year-old Pe-ja Campbell. A native of nearby Mound Bayou, Campbell was at a local club when a shooting erupted around 1 a.m.
Responding to the call, deputies from the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department arrived at the club to find that Campbell had already been transported by a private vehicle to Northwest Medical Center in Clarksdale.
Tragically, by the time law enforcement reached the hospital, she had succumbed to her injuries.
In the wake of the fatal shooting, investigators quickly identified a suspect. Tymeja Boss, a 22-year-old resident of Shelby, was taken into custody by the Bolivar County Sheriff's Department. Boss has since been formally charged with murder in connection with Pe-ja Campbell's death. While an arrest has been made, authorities have not publicly disclosed a potential motive for the shooting. Funeral services for Campbell were scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Mound Bayou.
