In the late hours of a summer night in Las Vegas, a burst of violence in a parking lot on North Rancho Drive forever altered the lives of several families. On July 30, 2025, 18-year-old Latrell Jones-Dunbar, a Black male, was shot in an incident that would ultimately claim his life. Officers responded to the scene, near West Cheyenne Avenue and the North Las Vegas Airport, to find the young man gravely wounded.
He was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries approximately three days later. The Clark County Coroner's office later formally identified him.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led authorities to two suspects. Victor Hugo Wright and Jaden John Barnes, both 19 years old, were identified as the individuals allegedly responsible for the fatal encounter. Barnes was the first to be taken into custody on July 31, initially for an unrelated matter, before being charged in connection with Jones-Dunbar's death. Wright was apprehended by police on a subsequent Thursday. Both teenagers were booked into the Clark County Detention Center and held without bail.
Wright and Barnes face a slate of serious charges, including murder, attempted robbery, kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit both kidnapping and robbery. During their initial court appearance, a notable moment occurred when Victor Hugo Wright was seen grinning as the Justice of the Peace read the charges against him. The case against the two 19-year-olds is set to proceed through the court system, with a future court date scheduled for September 9.
