In the early morning hours of August 20, 2025, 37-year-old African American resident Troy C. Hamilton was fatally shot by law enforcement officers outside his home in Bel-Ridge, Missouri. The sequence of events began shortly after midnight when officers from the St. John Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a red Pontiac G5 near the intersection of St. Charles Rock Road and North-South Road.
