A dispute between brothers in Overland, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving one man dead and his younger sibling facing murder charges. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Branden Carter. The altercation occurred on a Monday afternoon in October 2025, beginning inside the home the brothers shared and spilling out into the driveway.
The argument turned violent, and at one point, Branden Carter's younger brother, Brion Carter, retrieved an
assault-style rifle from his vehicle. Witnesses reported that Brion warned his older brother not to swing at him again. When Branden attempted to strike him, Brion shot him once in the chest at close range. Emergency services were called to the scene in the 9000 block of Seneca Lane, where they found Branden Carter lying wounded. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Following the shooting, Brion Carter was taken into custody by the Overland Police Department. He reportedly made spontaneous statements that identified him as the shooter. Prosecutors have since charged the 26-year-old with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. A judge set his bond at $250,000, cash-only. He remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
