In the early morning hours of April 21, 2025, the life of 43-year-old Shaun Mooring was tragically cut short in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood of St. Louis. At approximately 5 a.m., police responded to a call for a shooting near the intersection of North Market and Coleman streets. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Mooring, a resident of Rock Hill, lying in the street with gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting was swift. Homicide detectives were called to the scene to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter. Their work quickly led them to a suspect, 44-year-old Curtis L. Sills. Evidence gathered by the authorities played a crucial role in his identification and subsequent arrest. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the area which reportedly captured the incident.
Following the review of the footage and collection of physical evidence, Curtis L. Sills was taken into custody. Police reported finding blood on Sills' car and shoes. A 9mm pistol that was recovered was determined to be a match for the bullets used in the shooting. Additionally, Mooring's orange wallet was found discarded nearby. Based on the evidence, the Circuit Attorney's Office charged Sills with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with Shaun Mooring's death.
