On the morning of April 29, 2025, police in Saint Louis, Missouri, began an investigation following the discovery of a deceased individual in the College Hill neighborhood. Around 8:50 a.m., officers responded to a call for assistance at the 1900 block of East Obear Avenue. Upon arrival, they located the body of 22-year-old Anthony Conner Jr. lying in the rear of a vacant home.
The young man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Detectives with the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation, utilizing resources from the Real Time Crime Center to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Investigators were able to identify a specific vehicle that had been in the area around the time the crime occurred. Further inquiry into the vehicle’s ownership and movements, combined with cellphone data analysis, placed a suspect at the scene when the shooting took place.
Nearly two months after the incident, on June 14, 2025, authorities arrested 46-year-old Jemell Johnson in connection with the case. According to court documents, Johnson admitted to owning the vehicle in question and acknowledged knowing about the death. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Following his arrest, Johnson was held without bond and entered a plea of not guilty during his initial court appearance.
