On the evening of Friday, July 25, 2025, 19-year-old Daniel M. Douglas lost his life following a violent incident in St. Louis County, Missouri. A recent high school graduate with aspirations of attending trade school to become an HVAC repairman, the young man had left his home in Mehlville shortly before 7:00 p.m. to meet with acquaintances. He bid his mother, Jennifer Gibbs, a final farewell, expressing his love before departing.
Not long after he left, gunshots rang out near the 2200 block of Union Road, a commercial strip located in close proximity to the South County Center.
His mother, who was nearby and heard the volley of eight to ten gunshots, instinctively rushed to the scene. In the parking lot of a strip mall, she discovered her son lying on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. As a registered nurse, she immediately attempted to render aid, performing CPR in a desperate bid to save him until first responders arrived. Emergency personnel transported him to a local hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries; however, he ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead that same night.
Investigators from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons launched a homicide investigation, initially having no suspects in custody. By the following Monday, July 28, detectives had identified and apprehended two suspects in neighboring St. Charles County. The individuals taken into custody were two juvenile males, aged 16 and 17, who were reportedly acquaintances of the victim. They were subsequently held at the St. Charles County Family Court. Prosecutors filed charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action against both teenagers, though the specific motive for the shooting remained unclear in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
