On the night of July 9, 2025, Demetrius McClain, age 41, drove to a friend’s home on the 300 block of West Monroe Avenue in Greenwood, Mississippi. He and his friend, 48-year-old Lasine McKinnon, sat in the vehicle in the driveway, a familiar end to a midsummer day, until gunfire broke the quiet. Multiple shooters allegedly opened fire on the parked car, and a 911 call came in at 10:15 p.m. reporting the attack.
