Jewell Jefferson, a 16-year-old Black girl from Lithonia, Georgia, was at home on Great Meadows Road on the evening of November 27, 2017, when her life was cut short inside the place where she should have been safest. Police said the shooting happened around 7 p.m. in her bedroom. Her mother, Takecha Jacks, and Jacks’ boyfriend were elsewhere in the home when they heard the gunshot, then rushed to Jewell’s room and found her bleeding in bed.
