In the predawn hours of a Wednesday in Tylertown, Mississippi, the quiet of St. Paul Road was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On July 30, 2025, 31-year-old Dustin Charles Carr, a Black male, was found lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. A 911 call was placed at approximately 2:24 a.m., and when deputies and investigators arrived, they discovered Carr, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The county coroner later established the time of death to be around 2:40 a.m.
Born in McComb, Mississippi, in 1993, Carr's life was tragically cut short. In the immediate aftermath of the discovery of his body, law enforcement officials began their investigation. Their attention quickly turned to a man who had remained at the scene of the shooting. This individual was identified as 27-year-old Dequarrius Raiford.
Raiford was taken into custody for questioning and was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Dustin Carr. He was booked into the Walthall County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. Initially, it was reported that he was being held without bond, though his bond was later set at $250,000.
