In the Broadmoor neighborhood of New Orleans, on the evening of May 28, 2025, the life of William Thibodaux, a 46-year-old white male, was tragically cut short. Responding to a call at approximately 5:27 p.m., New Orleans police officers arrived at a residence in the 3300 block of Napoleon Avenue to find a grim scene. Inside, Thibodaux had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The New Orleans Police Department immediately launched a homicide
investigation into the shooting. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified the victim as William Thibodaux. As detectives began to piece together the events of that evening, their investigation quickly led to a person of interest. The day following the discovery of Thibodaux's body, an arrest was made in connection with the killing.
Authorities took 48-year-old Billy Dietrich into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Orleans Justice Center, facing a serious charge of second-degree murder.
