In the late morning of September 5, 2025, a tragedy unfolded at the Fort Leonard Wood military base in Missouri, resulting in the death of 18-year-old Andrey Okunev. A male private in the Army National Guard, Okunev was a native of Long Beach, California, and was more than halfway through his 10-week Basic Combat Training.
