On the evening of Monday, August 4, 2025, Joshua Darnell Brewer, a 26-year-old Black male, completed his shift at the Greenwood Walmart and made a stop at a neighboring vape shop. As he sat in his car, shots were fired, and he was gravely wounded. Emergency services rushed him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5.
The Greenwood Police Department began an immediate investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly led to a breakthrough. On Thursday, August 7, investigators arrested 25-year-old Colbie Saulsberry, charging her with murder in connection with Brewer's death. A judge set her bond at $1 million, and she was detained at the Leflore County Jail.
The investigation continued as law enforcement sought a second individual believed to be involved. A murder warrant was issued for 31-year-old Malcolm Kohn the day after the fatal shooting. A fugitive investigation was launched, and information led authorities to believe Kohn had fled to Memphis, Tennessee.
On August 13, the U.S. Marshals Service, in collaboration with the Memphis Police Department, located Kohn at a residence on Greer Street in Memphis. He was found hiding under a bed and initially resisted arrest. A K-9 unit was utilized, which resulted in his surrender without further incident. Kohn was taken into custody and awaited extradition to Mississippi to face the murder charge against him.
