In a tragic turn of events on August 5, 2025, McComb Police Sergeant Jason N. Blake, a 39-year-old male, lost his life in a violent encounter in Pike County, Mississippi. Even though he was off-duty, Blake was responding to a call for help at a residence near Highway 44 and Cole Thomas Road. It was there that he was fatally shot.
The incident unfolded as an apparent murder-suicide.
Authorities report that Clay Paulk forcibly entered the home and opened fire with a shotgun, striking both Sergeant Blake and a woman named Nicki Wilson. Paulk had a previous relationship with Wilson. After shooting Blake and Wilson, Paulk then took his own life with a handgun. Sergeant Blake and Paulk were both pronounced dead at the scene, while Wilson was transported to a local medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Sergeant Jason Blake was a respected figure in his community and in law enforcement, where he had served for sixteen years. He had been with the McComb Police Department for five years and had previously worked for the Pike County Sheriff's Department. Remembered as a dedicated officer and a loving family man, his colleagues described him as a 'big teddy bear' who was well-loved by the community. He was known for his willingness to help anyone in need, a quality that ultimately led him to the tragic events of that day.
