In the quiet community of Reserve, Louisiana, a young life was tragically cut short on the evening of June 12, 2025. Tylik Jackson, a 17-year-old male, had only weeks before celebrated his graduation from East St. John High School, a milestone that represented a future full of promise. Described as a 'bright light' with a 'radiant smile' and 'kind spirit,' his death sent shockwaves through the community that had watched him grow.
The events that led to Jackson's untimely demise unfolded
in the 400 block of Northwest Third Street. Shortly after 8 p.m., deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jackson lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting was swift, aided by the sheriff's office's crime cameras which had captured a physical altercation between Jackson and another male just moments before the fatal shots were fired. This footage proved crucial in identifying the individuals involved. The conflict, which took place in the middle of the street, is believed to have escalated from a dispute over a girl.
Within a day of the incident, two suspects were taken into custody. Jaydon Williams, 18, of LaPlace, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Also arrested was 17-year-old Damon Brown Jr. of Reserve, who faces charges as a principal to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Williams running to an apartment after the initial fight, retrieving a firearm from Brown, and then returning to shoot Jackson multiple times. Williams later turned himself in to investigators.
