In the quiet town of Reserve, Louisiana, a heated argument between two young men escalated into a tragedy that ended one life and irrevocably altered another. On the evening of Saturday, September 27, 2025, 21-year-old Tylen Anderson was shot and killed. His body was later discovered in the trunk of his own car, a grim conclusion to a dispute with his acquaintance.
The events of that night began to unfold around 9:35 p.m. when the St.
John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office received a call about a shooting in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue. A witness reported seeing a person being loaded into an orange Dodge sedan, which then sped away from the scene. Responding deputies found clothing and a shell casing at the location, signaling a violent encounter. Less than ten minutes later, a patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and initiated a traffic stop on West Airline Highway.
The driver of the orange Dodge was identified as 20-year-old Tyler Bourgeois of LaPlace. In a startling admission to the deputies who pulled him over, Bourgeois stated that there was a body in the trunk of the car. Upon opening the trunk, officers found the deceased body of Tylen Anderson. Bourgeois was taken into custody and, during questioning, confessed to the killing. He recounted that he and Anderson had been riding together when they got into a heated verbal argument, prompting them to pull over on Railroad Avenue. The argument continued outside the vehicle, culminating in Bourgeois producing a weapon and shooting Anderson.
Following his confession, Tyler Bourgeois was arrested and booked with second-degree murder. A judge set his bond at $250,000. The swift apprehension of the suspect was a result of the quick response from law enforcement, who located the vehicle, the victim, and the murder weapon in less than ten minutes from the initial call. The case was then turned over to the district attorney for prosecution.
