In the late summer of 2025, the comedy world was rocked by the tragic death of Reginald 'Reggie' Carroll, a 52-year-old male comedian. On the evening of August 20th, police in Southaven, Mississippi, responded to a call about a shooting on Burton Lane. Upon arrival, they discovered Carroll critically wounded from multiple gunshots. Emergency medical personnel administered life-saving aid before rushing him to a hospital in nearby Memphis, Tennessee, but he ultimately succumbed to his
injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect who was not a stranger to Carroll. Authorities identified 38-year-old Tranell Marquise Williams as the alleged shooter. It was revealed that Carroll and Williams were roommates, sharing the residence on Burton Lane where the fatal incident took place. Investigators determined that a 12-gauge shotgun was used in the killing. While a motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by law enforcement, officials have characterized the event as an 'isolated incident' and a 'private matter between two individuals.'
Tranell Marquise Williams was promptly taken into custody following the shooting and has since been charged with murder. He is being held in jail without bond. At the time of the incident, Carroll, a native of Baltimore, had been on tour with fellow comedian Katt Williams. Reports also surfaced that Tranell Williams was working as a security guard on the same tour. Authorities have clarified that the home on Burton Lane was a rental property leased to Carroll and Tranell Williams and have stated that Katt Williams had no involvement in the incident. The case is set to be presented to a DeSoto County grand jury for indictment as the legal process moves forward.
