James William Lance, Jr., a 40-year-old police lieutenant from Southaven, Mississippi, tragically lost his life in the line of duty on October 7, 1988. Lt. Lance was conducting a routine traffic stop at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Goodman Road when he pulled over a vehicle that matched the description of one involved in several armed robberies in Memphis, Tennessee.
