Just after 1 a.m. on June 13, 2025, police were called to a residence on Cass Avenue SE near Garden Street in Grand Rapids. Inside, officers found Semaj James, 30, male, fatally shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and after an autopsy, the Kent County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
