In the quiet community of Camelot Manor Mobile Home Community in Byron Township, Michigan, a domestic argument tragically escalated to a fatal shooting on the evening of Sunday, February 16, 2025. The life of 36-year-old Jeffrey Gamble, a Black male, was cut short in his own residence. The incident unfolded around 5:35 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Kent County Sheriff's Office to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of N Harewood Dr SW.
Upon their arrival, deputies discovered
Gamble suffering from two gunshot wounds, one to his chest and another to his hip. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, who had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, was quickly identified as 18-year-old Marquan Leron Brice, Gamble's roommate. The two had reportedly known each other for a number of years. Utilizing a drone and a K-9 unit, deputies were able to locate and apprehend Brice as he attempted to escape the area.
Following his arrest, Brice was lodged at the Kent County Jail. During questioning, he admitted to shooting Gamble. His confession was corroborated by two witnesses who also identified him as the shooter. The Kent County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged Brice with open murder and felony firearm. He was arraigned in the 63rd District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf. Given the severity of the charges, the court denied bond. Brice now faces the possibility of life in prison without the chance of parole if convicted of the murder charge. The case is scheduled for a probable cause conference and a preliminary examination to determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
