In the early hours of Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, the Upton neighborhood of West Baltimore was disturbed by the sound of gunfire. Police were called to the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue around 1:23 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene just outside The Avenue Market, where two individuals had been shot.
One of the victims was 31-year-old Kirsten Washington, a Black female. The other victim was identified as 27-year-old Devin Thompson.
When officers reached the sidewalk, they found both Washington and Thompson suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, but Thompson was pronounced dead at the location. Washington was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
In the days following the shooting, the Baltimore Police Department publicly identified both victims, releasing Thompson's name on May 27th, followed by Washington's on May 28th. As of late May 2025, investigators had not announced any arrests in the double homicide. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or discussed a possible motive for the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to contact homicide detectives or to report tips anonymously through Metro Crime Stoppers. The area where the shooting occurred was secured with police tape as detectives began their work, canvassing for potential witnesses and searching for surveillance footage that might shed light on the tragic event that unfolded on the holiday morning.
