In the quiet town of Haynesville, Louisiana, a tragic story of domestic violence reached its devastating conclusion, claiming the life of 48-year-old Rochelle Lewis. On the evening of July 1, 2025, at her home on Spring Drive, Rochelle was shot multiple times by her estranged husband, Shamarcus Lewis, who was 44 years old. The horrific event unfolded in the presence of the couple's two teenage children, ages 13 and 15, who made the desperate 911 call reporting that their 'Daddy had shot mama.' When authorities arrived, Rochelle was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene from her numerous gunshot wounds.
The violence that erupted that night was preceded by a history of domestic abuse. Rochelle had sought protection from the law, and at the time of her death, there was an active restraining order against Shamarcus. This order stemmed from a previous incident in November 2024, when he had allegedly rammed her car from behind while their children were inside. For that event, Shamarcus had been arrested and was facing charges of domestic abuse, aggravated assault, and child endangerment. As a condition of his release, he was wearing an ankle monitor at the time he committed the fatal act.
After shooting his wife, Shamarcus Lewis fled the scene in his vehicle, sparking a multi-agency law enforcement pursuit. The chase sped south along U.S. Hwy. 79 and onto Interstate 20, where officers from the Minden Police Department successfully deployed spike strips to disable his vehicle. The pursuit ended in Webster Parish, but the confrontation was not over. A tense standoff of about 10 minutes ensued, which concluded when Shamarcus turned the gun on himself, sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a Shreveport hospital in critical condition.
