In the summer of 2014, the life of a young woman from Metairie, Louisiana, was tragically cut short in New Orleans. Rebecca 'Becca' Casey DeMuth, a 23-year-old female, was a devoted mother to her young child, a loving daughter, and a cherished sister to her two brothers. She had attended Crescent City Christian high school and was a familiar face at Victory Fellowship for Sunday School.
Her active youth included running track at Cleary Playground, creating memories with a large circle of family and friends who adored her.
The narrative of her life took a dark turn on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. On that day, Rebecca's body was discovered in the 4200 block of France Road in New Orleans. An investigation by the New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Division determined that she had suffered several gunshot wounds, the cause of her untimely death. Her passing was a profound loss to her extensive family, including her parents, grandparents, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, leaving a community to mourn a life ended by gun violence.
More than two months after Rebecca's death, a significant development occurred in the case. On the morning of October 2, 2014, the FBI's Violent Crime Task Force, in conjunction with the New Orleans Police Department and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, arrested a suspect. Anthony Eugene, a 35-year-old man, was taken into custody without incident in Metairie. An arrest warrant had been issued for Eugene, charging him with the second-degree murder of Rebecca Demuth. Following his arrest, a search warrant was executed at his residence in connection with the ongoing murder investigation. He was subsequently booked on the murder warrant to await extradition to Orleans Parish.
