In the early hours of June 7, 2025, a tragedy unfolded in a parking garage in Landover, Maryland. At approximately 4:40 a.m., officers from the Prince George's County Police Department were dispatched to the 400 block of Warfield Drive after receiving a report of an unresponsive man. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Dequan M. Clinkscale, a male resident of Capitol Heights, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Known to friends and family as 'Mr. Showoff,' Dequan was born on August 15, 1993, in Washington, D.C. He was remembered as the life of the party, a man who could turn any dull moment into a cherished memory with his storytelling and dancing. He was a devoted father to his three children and was known for his generosity, charm, humor, and giant heart. He grew up in Largo, Maryland, and attended schools in Prince George's County, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

The initial investigation by the Homicide Unit did not suggest a random act of violence. Through their investigative work, detectives identified a suspect, 33-year-old Aaron Zavier Jefferson of Upper Marlboro. The preliminary findings indicated that Jefferson and Clinkscale were known to each other and that the fatal shooting occurred during an argument.

Following the investigation, Aaron Zavier Jefferson was arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges. He was taken into custody in Fairfax County, Virginia, where he awaited extradition to Prince George's County to face the charges against him. The police department initially offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.
