On August 31, 2024, at approximately 7:40 pm, 34-year-old Jakel Stone of Bowie, Maryland, was fatally shot in Landover. Prince George's County Police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 6900 block of Hawthorne Street, where they found Stone suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
