In the spring of 2017, a tragedy befell a Hyattsville, Maryland resident, leaving a family grieving and a community searching for answers. On April 4th, 31-year-old Charles Bennett, a Black/African American male, was found lying in a driveway in the 7100 block of East Lombard Street in Landover. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and despite the arrival of Prince George's County Police, his life could not be saved.
The investigation into Bennett's death began immediately, with law
enforcement working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. However, the path to justice proved to be a challenging one. Investigators found it difficult to identify the person or persons responsible for the crime and to establish a clear motive for the senseless act of violence.
In the years that have passed since Charles Bennett's untimely death, his case has remained an open investigation. Despite appeals to the public for information and the offer of anonymity through Crime Solvers, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his murder. The Prince George's County Police continue their efforts to solve the case and bring closure to Bennett's family, who still await the day that those responsible for his death will be held accountable.
