In the light of a Saturday afternoon, tragedy struck on a Minneapolis street, forever altering the lives of those who knew Demeetrous Eugene Martin, a 44-year-old Black male. On July 26, 2025, in what police would later describe as an act of "brazen violence," Martin was standing outside in the 3000 block of Grand Avenue South. The ordinary day was shattered shortly after 1 p.m. when a vehicle abruptly stopped near him.
A man exited the car, unleashing a hail of bullets that found their mark, inflicting multiple gunshot wounds. The assailant then got back into the vehicle and sped away, leaving chaos and sorrow in his wake.
First responders arrived at the scene to find Martin gravely wounded. Despite their immediate life-saving efforts, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the location of the attack. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that the cause of his death was multiple gunshot wounds and officially ruled it a homicide.
