In the fading afternoon light of September 30, 2025, tragedy struck at the Friends Corner Food Mart in Jackson, Mississippi, claiming the life of 19-year-old Joshua Lewis Davis. A Black male, Davis was fatally wounded when gunfire erupted in the 3200 block of Bailey Avenue. When police and the Hinds County coroner arrived at the scene, they found Davis deceased from at least one gunshot wound. The shooting, which involved rounds being fired into a vehicle, also left two women, aged 21 and 50, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the homicide quickly led to a suspect. Within days, with the assistance of Rankin County deputies and Florence police, investigators took 17-year-old Kamran Boclair into custody. He was subsequently charged with one count of murder in connection with Joshua Davis's death and two counts of aggravated assault for the injuries sustained by the two women.
The case took another turn with the arrest of the suspect's mother, Tiffeni Hughes. Investigators charged her with hindering prosecution, alleging that she had picked up her son following the shooting and driven him to a relative's home in Rankin County in an effort to aid his escape. As the legal process began to unfold, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting remained active.
