In the early evening of July 15, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet on Lasseigne Road in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Vincent Joseph, a 56-year-old man, was inside his vehicle when he was struck by multiple bullets. Despite his grave injuries, Joseph managed to drive away from the scene of the shooting in a desperate attempt to flee his attacker.
His flight was short-lived, however, as he ultimately lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree at the intersection of LA Highway 308 and LA Highway 3185. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and he was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, the severity of the gunshot wounds proved to be fatal, and he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting was swift, with detectives from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office quickly identifying a person of interest. Their inquiries led them to Kayvon Woodside, a 25-year-old resident of Gray. Investigators pieced together evidence that pointed to Woodside as the suspected shooter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The manhunt for Woodside extended into the neighboring Terrebonne Parish, where he was located and taken into custody on July 17, 2025, with the assistance of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.
Following his capture, Woodside was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex before being transferred to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex to face the charges against him. A judge set his bail at $600,000. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office publicly acknowledged the assistance of several other law enforcement agencies in the investigation and apprehension of the suspect, including the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office, the Thibodaux Police Department, and the Thibodaux City Marshal's Office. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released to the public as the investigation continued.
