Charlotte Love, age 23, a Black woman from Glenwood, was found shot alongside 37-year-old Kash Wakefield after police were called to a home in the 600 block of Holbrook Road on the night of Tuesday, May 13, 2025. According to Glenwood police and the Cook County medical examiner, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, while Charlotte Love, age 23, was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died. A handgun was recovered in the home. Police said Charlotte Love, age 23, and Wakefield were in a dating relationship, and officers had previously been called to the residence twice on civil matters related to occupancy.
Authorities determined the case to be a murder-suicide. The medical examiner ruled Wakefield's death a suicide from a gunshot wound to the head, and Charlotte Love, age 23, a woman, died of multiple gunshot wounds, ruled a homicide. Wakefield was pronounced at 9:49 p.m. on May 13; Charlotte Love, age 23, died at 4:08 a.m. the following day, even as some memorial listings record the date of loss as May 13, reflecting the night of the attack.
There were no arrests. Police described no outstanding suspects beyond Wakefield, whose death at the scene closed the immediate search for an offender. In the weeks that followed, memorial pages for Charlotte Love, age 23, a woman, marked her as “lost to gun violence” in Glenwood, confirming the timing and place while echoing the police determination of a murder-suicide in a private residence.
