Jacinda Oakgrove, 30, a woman from Minneapolis, was shot on the night of September 15, 2025, and died three days later on September 18 at Hennepin Healthcare, according to the Minneapolis Police Department and a published obituary.
Gunfire erupted around 10 p.m. near an encampment just north of East Lake Street on South 28th Avenue. An off-duty MPD officer working at the nearby Target heard the shots after people ran inside reporting gunfire.
The scene was chaotic; seven people were injured in total, with three women and one man taken from the scene to Hennepin Healthcare, one man walking into Children's Hospital before being transferred, one woman walking into Abbott Northwestern, and another man later arriving at Regions Hospital.
Investigators recovered evidence of gunfire throughout the encampment and are still working to determine the sequence of events. Police noted it was unknown whether this shooting was related to another incident near Lake Street and Stevens Avenue earlier that day. In the days that followed, a man was arrested on September 18 for potential aiding and abetting after the fact, then released pending any formal complaint; no suspects have been publicly named or charged in Jacinda Oakgrove's killing.
