In the early morning hours of September 2, 2025, the life of Marcus Jerome Jones, a 41-year-old Black/African American male from Grand Rapids, was tragically cut short. Around 2:30 a.m., officers from the Grand Rapids Police Department responded to a call in the 400 block of Diamond Avenue SE, near Sigsbee Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the first responders, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an autopsy, the Kent County Medical Examiner officially ruled the death of Marcus Jerome Jones a homicide. The Grand Rapids Police Department publicly identified him and confirmed that an investigation into the shooting was underway. His death marked the ninth homicide in the city of Grand Rapids for the year 2025.
