On the late summer evening of August 19, 2025, the tranquility of Columbia, Maryland's Merriweather District was shattered by gunfire. Leon Grant Jr., a 39-year-old Black male from Salisbury who had been staying in Columbia, was fatally shot at approximately 10:35 p.m. in a parking lot situated off Dove Sail Lane and Merriweather Drive. The area, located near the well-known Merriweather Post Pavilion, became the scene of a targeted attack that would leave a community on edge.
