A simmering dispute between two men in Columbia, Maryland, tragically culminated in the death of 21-year-old Taiwan Dashon Dorsey in the summer of 2019. The fatal encounter unfolded on the afternoon of Saturday, July 20, when Dorsey and a friend went to the neighborhood of Franck Herman Ngande. An ongoing conflict between them escalated into a physical fight.
After the altercation, Ngande went into his home and emerged with a rifle.
As Dorsey and his friend attempted to flee, Ngande fired multiple shots, striking Dorsey once in the back. The wounded young man ran towards Little Patuxent Parkway before collapsing. Emergency services responded to the 12000 block of Little Patuxent Parkway around 1:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Dorsey was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Howard County police quickly identified Ngande, then 22 years old, as the suspect. Their investigation revealed the history of the dispute between the two men. Two days after the shooting, on July 22, police apprehended Ngande without incident in the vicinity of Little Patuxent Parkway. He was subsequently charged with a slew of offenses, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, and firearm use in a felony.
In October 2022, a Howard County Circuit Court jury convicted Franck Herman Ngande on multiple counts, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. The following March, Ngande, then 25, was sentenced for his crimes. He received a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for the murder of Taiwan Dashon Dorsey, an additional life sentence for the attempted murder of Dorsey's friend, and a further 40 years for other related charges.
