On a quiet Sunday night in Columbia, Maryland, the life of 25-year-old Meiko Anthony Locksley, a male, was cut short by a single gunshot. On September 3, 2017, at approximately 10:20 p.m., residents of the 5500 block of Harpers Farm Road were startled by the sound of a lone gunshot. One of the residents discovered Locksley outside, suffering from a visible gunshot wound, and immediately called 911.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported Locksley to the University of
Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead overnight. At the time of his death, Locksley was working at a local Subway restaurant, and his co-workers described him as quiet, hardworking, and easygoing. He was the son of Mike Locksley, a well-known college football coach.
Howard County Police immediately launched an investigation into the homicide. In the initial stages, authorities reported that they had no information about a possible suspect or a motive for the shooting and appealed to the public for any information. Later, investigators began to suspect that the motive may have been a drug-related robbery, though they believed the act was not random. In an effort to generate leads, a reward of up to $10,000 was offered for information that could lead to an arrest.
