In the quiet community of Glennville, Georgia, a tragic event unfolded on a spring weekend, leaving a family shattered and a community in mourning. On Sunday, May 18, 2025, 18-year-old Edilberto 'Eddie' Marin-Torres, a Hispanic male, was found deceased at his home on Baxter Durrence Road. A rising senior at Tattnall County High School, Eddie was known for his love of soccer.
The Tattnall County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called to the residence just
before 1:30 a.m. following a 911 call reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a grim scene. Inside the home, they found the bodies of Eddie, along with 51-year-old Veronica Quevedo Torres and 24-year-old Leslie Johana Marrufo Torres. All three had been fatally shot.
The investigation has led authorities to believe the incident was a murder-suicide. The suspected shooter was identified as 42-year-old Octavia Chihuahua Castro, who was also found deceased at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities have not released a motive for the killings or the relationships between Castro and the Torres family.
Miraculously, three other residents of the home, including a six-month-old baby, were found unharmed. The Tattnall County Sheriff's Office has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community. The bodies of all four individuals were transported to the GBI Medical Examiner's Office in Pooler for autopsies. The family announced that funeral services and interment for Eddie would be held in Mexico.
