Chasity Shorter, 21, a Black woman, was found fatally shot late on the night of May 16, 2025, at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Clark Road in Gary, Indiana. Emergency responders were dispatched around 11:22 p.m., and the Lake County Coroner later pronounced her deceased; an autopsy determined she died of gunshot wounds and ruled her death a homicide. Reports noted that she was four months pregnant at the time.
