A road rage incident in Paulding County, Georgia, on the afternoon of Monday, June 9, 2025, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 41-year-old Shawn Christopher Brannon, a white male from Piedmont, Alabama. The confrontation unfolded near the intersection of Ridge Road and Cohran Store Road, beginning as a dispute between Brannon and another driver.
Witnesses reported seeing the two men circling each other's vehicles and engaging in a physical altercation. At one point, Brannon allegedly threw an object in the face of the other driver. The altercation continued with aggressive driving, and ultimately, Brannon was shot. Despite his injuries, Brannon was able to call 911 and drive himself to a nearby fire station on Ridge Road to seek medical help. From there, he was transported to Wellstar Paulding Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following an immediate investigation, detectives from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Collins Pruitt, a 46-year-old man. Investigators were able to locate both Pruitt and his black SUV at his residence in Cobb County, where he was taken into custody without incident.
After a thorough review of the circumstances and interviews, detectives determined that the incident did not meet the legal criteria for a murder charge. Instead, Collins Pruitt was charged with one count of voluntary manslaughter. He is currently being held at the Paulding County Jail without bond. The investigation remains active, and authorities have urged any other witnesses to come forward with information.
