In the late afternoon of June 19, 2025, a routine trip to a CVS pharmacy in Indianapolis ended in tragedy for a young family. Two-year-old Javarius Bickett, a male child, was in a vehicle with his mother, Keiara Bickett, and his eight-year-old sister in the parking lot of the store located in the 2300 block of East 46th Street. What happened next unfolded in a devastatingly swift sequence of events that would claim the toddler's life.
While his mother was reportedly distracted, looking
at her phone as she prepared to park, Javarius managed to get out of his car seat. He found his mother's 9mm Glock handgun inside her unzipped purse, which had been placed on the front passenger seat. The young boy accidentally discharged the weapon, inflicting a fatal gunshot wound to his head. His sister, who was in the front seat, witnessed the horrific incident. In a state of panic, Keiara Bickett immediately called 911 after hearing the shot and seeing her son fall to the floorboard. First responders arrived to a heart-wrenching scene, finding the critically injured toddler. He was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children but succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
The investigation into Javarius's death led to legal consequences for his mother. Keiara Bickett, 28, was subsequently arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 felony.
