On February 20, 2024, at approximately 1:28 p.m., 19-year-old Jorge Ramos was fatally shot in North Hollywood, California. Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Ethel Avenue, where they discovered Ramos lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing two individuals fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. Following an intensive investigation, LAPD detectives executed search and arrest warrants on February 29 in the San Fernando Valley. A 13-year-old boy was arrested in Van Nuys, and a 14-year-old boy was arrested in North Hills. Both were taken into custody without incident, and several pieces of evidence were recovered during the operation.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office subsequently filed charges against the two juveniles. The 14-year-old faces one count of murder, while the 13-year-old has been charged with being an accessory to murder. Due to their ages, the identities of the suspects have not been released.
