On June 10, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., 20-year-old Dashaun Berry was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in a parking lot located at 10923 Magnolia Boulevard, near Vineland Avenue, in North Hollywood, California.
In November 2023, authorities arrested 24-year-old Taurean Bartlett, known professionally as "Trench Baby" and the younger brother of rapper Polo G, in connection with Berry's death.
Bartlett was charged with felony murder, with investigators alleging his involvement in the drive-by shooting that led to Berry's demise.
In addition to the murder charge, Bartlett faces charges related to a first-degree residential robbery on August 15, 2023, and an incident on September 10, 2023, involving dissuading a witness by force or threat. Both additional charges are believed to involve the same individual.
Bartlett is currently being held without bail as legal proceedings continue. His attorneys have contested the charges, citing a lack of physical evidence directly linking him to the crime, including the absence of a murder weapon, motive, gunshot residue, or eyewitness identification.
The investigation into Berry's death remains active, with authorities urging anyone with additional information to contact Valley Bureau Homicide Detectives at 818-374-9550 or, during non-business hours, 877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247). Anonymous tips can be provided to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
As the case progresses, the community continues to seek justice for Berry, whose life was tragically cut short. The involvement of individuals connected to the music industry has drawn significant public attention to the case, underscoring the pervasive impact of gun violence.
