Emma Schultheis, 14, was spending a summer afternoon near a brick outbuilding along State Route 3 south of Waterloo, Illinois, when a single gunshot turned a routine day into catastrophe. At about 1:34 p.m. on July 21, 2025, first responders were dispatched to 5925 Route 3 for a medical emergency involving the 14-year-old girl.
