Latrista L. Warfield, a 37-year-old woman from Peoria, Illinois, was found dead on January 19, 2025, at the Grove Apartments. Authorities responded to a call just before 11 a.m. regarding a deceased individual in the hallway of the apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers discovered Warfield lying in the hallway with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:43 a.m.
Investigators later arrested Derrick S. Hall, a 45-year-old man, in connection with Warfield’s death. Hall was charged with first-degree murder and remained in custody at the Peoria County Jail. Reports indicate that Hall turned himself in to the police on the night of the incident, admitting that he had the firearm used in the crime. Detectives recovered the weapon, and forensic analysis confirmed that shell casings found at the scene matched test shots from Hall’s gun.
Warfield, also known as Latrista Sims, was remembered by friends and family as a vibrant and loving individual. A GoFundMe page was created in her memory, describing her as “the life of the party” and a “sweet and loving soul” who did not deserve such a tragic fate. The fundraiser had raised over $2,400 by Tuesday morning.
