On the afternoon of July 26, 2025, a tragic sequence of events unfolded in Kansas City, Kansas, culminating in the death of 34-year-old Elijah Ming, a Black / African American male. A nine-year veteran of the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Ming was responding to a domestic situation on South 30th Street. A woman had requested a civil standby to safely move her belongings out of a home after being threatened by a man with a gun.
