On a Sunday evening in Kennesaw, Georgia, what began as an argument inside an apartment escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 24-year-old Jalen Parker. A student of mechanical engineering at Kennesaw State University, Parker was at the Bixby Kennesaw apartments on George Busbee Parkway when the dispute occurred. The complex, primarily housing students, is located directly across from the university's Fifth Third Stadium.
The conflict allegedly involved 22-year-old Anthony Lockett, who was present during the initial argument. After leaving the apartment, Lockett is said to have returned with family members. He then reportedly confronted the individuals inside the apartment with a firearm and discharged multiple rounds. Parker was struck by the gunfire and was later transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In the ensuing chaos, another individual inside the apartment reportedly returned fire. During this exchange, Lockett's 40-year-old mother, Antoinette Hammonds, was also shot. First responders found her in the parking lot, and she was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Following the incident, Anthony Lockett was arrested and is facing charges of felony murder and aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the Cobb Adult Detention Center without bond. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
