Brandon Maxey, a 26-year-old Black / African American man, was riding in a car on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, when gunfire tore through the quiet of the early afternoon in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. Around 1:30 p.m., as the vehicle traveled in the first block of North Lavergne Avenue, another car pulled alongside and someone opened fire.
