In the late afternoon of July 10, 2025, a burst of violence at a convenience store in Augusta, Georgia, claimed the life of 28-year-old Raekwon Tyrell Brinson. The tragic event unfolded at approximately 2:52 p.m. at the One Stop & Shop located at 2382 Barton Chapel Road. Brinson was reportedly standing in the doorway of the store when he was fatally shot.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Brinson's death led authorities to identify two suspects. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office announced that 20-year-old Camron Jakai Brown was a primary suspect in the fatal shooting. Several days later, on July 15, 2025, Brown turned himself in to the authorities. Prior to Brown's surrender, investigators had already apprehended another individual in connection with the crime. Sixteen-year-old Charles Reginald Harris III was arrested and charged as a co-defendant in the murder case.
According to law enforcement, Brinson was exiting the convenience store when two individuals, later identified as Brown and Harris, got out of a vehicle and approached the entrance. Both suspects allegedly brandished firearms and shot Brinson multiple times before escaping in the same vehicle. A deputy later spotted the suspect vehicle on Milledgeville Road and performed a PIT maneuver to stop it. The driver, Javar Crockett, was taken into custody and provided investigators with information that was corroborated by surveillance footage. Harris, who is Crockett's brother, was later identified by witnesses in a lineup as one of the shooters. The ongoing investigation has highlighted concerns about the rise of violent crime in the Augusta area.
