In a quiet Fort Wayne, Indiana neighborhood, the life of Toni Lynn Ott, a 45-year-old White female, was tragically cut short on August 3, 2025. Her death, which occurred in a home in the 900 block of Morrow Way, was the result of a gunshot wound to the head. The Allen County Coroner's Office officially ruled her death a homicide, marking the 26th homicide in Allen County for the year.
Responding to a report of a shooting that afternoon, Fort Wayne police officers discovered Ms.
Ott deceased at the scene. Alongside her was 47-year-old James Derek Moreno, who was also found deceased. An autopsy later confirmed that Moreno's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, and his manner of death was ruled a suicide.
Investigators have characterized the incident as a murder-suicide, with Moreno being the sole suspect in Ott's death. There have been no other arrests or suspects announced in connection with the case. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragic event remains ongoing by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner's Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
