On the morning of September 12, 2025, Jeremiah Dawson, 23, a Black male, was walking along the sidewalk in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood when a car pulled up in the 800 block of East 91st Street and someone inside opened fire. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police described the shooting as a drive-by carried out just after 10:30 a.m., broad daylight on a residential block.
Area Two detectives opened an investigation as neighbors absorbed the shock of the sudden burst of violence and the car sped away. Officials did not immediately release additional circumstances beyond the location, timing, and manner of the attack.
By that evening, authorities identified the victim as Jeremiah Dawson, 23, male, and confirmed that no arrests had been reported. Detectives continued to search for the shooter or shooters and the vehicle involved, appealing for information as the case remained open with no suspects publicly named.
