In the early hours of August 20, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia, the life of a 3-year-old boy was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire. Bryson Murray, a young male, was inside his home on the 1100 block of New Savannah Road when multiple bullets penetrated the walls of the residence at approximately 1:10 a.m. Bryson was struck by the gunfire and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. A 40-year-old woman, identified as Bryson's mother, was also wounded in the shooting. Two other individuals, a 39-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, were present in the home but were not injured.
The incident stemmed from an argument, after which a suspect fired numerous rounds into the back of the house. An investigation by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office led to the arrest of 32-year-old Carl B. Gant III in connection with the fatal shooting. Gant has been charged with murder, three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
During a court appearance, it was revealed that Bryson's mother was holding him when they were both shot. Despite her own injuries, which included gunshot wounds to the chest and arm, she attempted to render aid to her son. Gant has a criminal history dating back to 2011, with previous convictions for burglary and weapons charges, as well as pending terroristic threats charges at the time of the shooting. A judge denied bond for Gant, deeming him a flight risk and a danger to the community and potential witnesses.
